Gover St Bistro is a French inspired eatery and lounge delivering a quality dining experience in the heart of New Plymouth.

How did you go about designing your interior?
We set a design brief that included casual sophistication, comfort, & light with the softness of a home. From there we looked for inspiration from places we had visited and loved.

Did you have a designer? If so, who name/website
The design brief was led by owners who were clear around the look they wanted to achieve and was brought to life by Brady & Sarah Gibbons, Gibbons Architects,

Tell us about Gover Street, the inspiration and the ethos etc
The owners wanted to create a light-filled space that invited many occasions including a lounge, casual booth and a more formal dining area, private spaces for family and businesses events. We wanted to create a neighbourhood feel, genuine hospitality with a truly seasonal, affordable menu.

Do you have a favourite item/space in your business?
I adore the lounge, the owners sunk into that’s space on a number of occasions while working into the night pre-opening and found it difficult to leave

How important is lighting to the customer experience and enjoyment?
Lighting reflects warmth, intimacy and comfort, its essential to creating an authentic neighbourhood eatery that encourages lingering and returns. (MR Ralph products used were – Opal Globe rodded pendant with brass fittings and the opal globe wall sconces
